The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced Saturday, June 28, 2025, as the date for a mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 96,838 candidates across Nigeria. According to a statement released by JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, affected candidates can begin printing their examination notification slips from Monday, June 23, as reported by BenriNews.

Who Qualifies for the Mop-Up Examination?

The mop-up examination will accommodate three categories of candidates:

  • 5,096 spill-over candidates

  • Candidates who failed biometric verification during the main exercise

  • 91,742 candidates who were absent in either or both the main and resit examinations

JAMB emphasized that this special dispensation for absentee candidates is exclusively for the 2025 UTME. The examination will be conducted across 183 centers nationwide, with additional centers on standby if needed.

Examination Schedule and Guidelines

The first session of the examination will commence at 8:00 am. Candidates scheduled for this session are strongly advised to arrive at their examination centers at least one to one and a half hours before the start time to complete necessary preparations and verifications.

Suspension of 113 CBT Centers

In a related development, JAMB has suspended or delisted 113 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers across the country due to various infractions discovered during the conduct of the UTME. The Board revealed that some centers were penalized for technical deficiencies observed during the mock and main examinations, while others were implicated in ongoing security investigations into examination malpractice.

"In addition to centres being delisted for technical deficiencies during the mock, UTME and resit examinations, a large number of CBT centres implicated for sharp practices in the on-going security investigation are being suspended and those found culpable would be delisted and reported for prosecution," the statement read.

Crackdown on Examination Malpractice

JAMB expressed appreciation to security agencies, particularly the State Security Service (SSS), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), for their dedication in the ongoing nationwide investigation into identity theft and examination malpractice syndicates.

The investigation has reportedly led to the arrest and prosecution of numerous culprits, including some JAMB officials, professional examination impersonators, and syndicates involving school proprietors and tutorial centers.

This development comes as part of JAMB's continued efforts to maintain the integrity of the UTME process and ensure fair assessment for all candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
