Canadian Immigration 2018

The Federal Government of Canada has announced their 2018 Canadian immigration levels plan. In 2018, the Government plans to accept 300,000 Canadian permanent residents, through immigration programs such as Canada Express Entry, Quebec Skilled Worker, and the various Canadian Provincial Nominee Programs.

How Canada Express Entry Works

There are 3 Immigrant programs namely:

  1. Federal Skilled Worker
  2. Canadian Experience Class
  3. Federal Skilled Trades

All 3 programs have different criteria for application, so people who are interested in immigrating to Canada through Express Entry can formally express their interest in becoming a permanent resident of Canada by creating an Express Entry profile.

Express Entry profile

Express Entry Profile is a form where you provide information about you like;

  • skills
  • education
  • language ability
  • work experience and
  • other details

Note: Once you start an Express Entry profile, you have 60 days to complete it.
The information you provide will be used to check if you are eligible for an immigration program managed by Express Entry. If you meet the criteria, you will be accepted into the Express Entry pool.

How to Create a Successful Canada Express Entry Profile

Canada Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)

Candidates will be scored/ranked using a points-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Candidates can earn scores based on information provided on profile.

CRS Scores or gives points for:

  • Skills: the more skilled you are the more points you earn.
  • Education
  • Language ability: try to score very High on all your 3 language test (Listing, Speaking, and Writing)
  • Work experience
    other detail.

You can also get points for:

  • Canadian degrees, diplomas or certificates
  • a valid job offer
  • a nomination from a province or territory

Apply for Permanent Residency in Canada

Candidates with the highest scores in the Express Entry pool are invited to apply for permanent residence (ITA). If you are invited to apply, you will have 90 days to submit an online application for permanent residence. Applications for permanent residence with all required documents will be processed in six months or less.

Note: Entering the Express Entry pool is not a guarantee that you will be invited but you can stay in the pool for up to 12 months as long as you meet the criteria for one of the federal programs. The best practice is to always update your profile as your case change e.g Acquired new degree, added new skill, work experience etc.

If after 12 months you’re not invited to apply for permanent residence and you still meet the criteria for Express Entry, feel free to Create/Submit a new profile to enter the pool back again.
